When “Organic” Isn’t Organic—and Why We Refuse to Play Along
One of the most frustrating realities Cheryl and I face is not creating effective formulas—it’s educating people in a world drowning in distorted information, especially around the word organic.
The term has been stretched, diluted, and marketed into near meaninglessness.
Today, if a product carries that small, official USDA “Organic” stamp, most consumers understandably assume it is the gold standard. A seal of approval. A guarantee of purity.
And in many cases… that assumption is simply not true.
What “Organic” Originally Meant
At its core, organic simply means something that comes from an organism or organic matter—something natural in origin.
But what the conventional world has done is redefine organic to fit manufacturing convenience, legal loopholes, and profit margins, rather than biological truth or performance.
Stick with me here—I may jump around a bit, but once you see this clearly, you’ll never unsee it.
The Way Cheryl and I Think
Cheryl and I have spent our lives tracing the most effective formulas—ingredients, compounds, even pharmaceutical drugs—back to their original sources.
Not forward into more processing.
Backward into origination.
Take aspirin as a simple example.
Aspirin, as we know it today, is a synthesized drug—acetylsalicylic acid—commonly found on any drugstore shelf. It works. No argument there.
But what most people don’t realize is that aspirin was inspired by a naturally occurring compound called salicin, which comes from white willow bark.
So yes—aspirin can help a headache.
But white willow bark is the original derivative, carrying a broader, more biologically intelligent profile that nature intended.
And that distinction matters.
This Is Our Formula Philosophy
This exact thinking is the foundation of every Belegenza formula—including our 17 hair growth factors.
Many brands stop at the “aspirin level,” so to speak:
• Highly refined
• Heavily synthesized
• Legally approved
• Easy to mass-produce
We went further.
We traced those “expert-approved” actives back to their natural derivative forms, where their intelligence, compatibility, and effectiveness are far greater.
That is the secret behind the performance people experience with Belegenza.
It also explains the cost.
We wish—truly—that it were less expensive.
But it simply isn’t possible to source, refine, and preserve ingredients at this level without cost.
Where We Did Cut Costs
We didn’t cut corners on ingredients.
We cut corners on deception.
We don’t pay celebrities to lie for us.
We don’t hire Madison Avenue ad men to “gloss over” the truth.
We don’t greenwash, green-gloss, or green-suggest our way into your trust.
(Yes—Mad Men is one of our favorite shows. And yes, it’s a masterclass in manipulation.)
Instead, we took it on ourselves to beat the drum for a standard beyond organic.
The Organic Illusion
Here’s a real-world example that still leaves us shaking our heads.
There is a major global food and wellness retailer—one we’ve known for over 40 years—that prides itself on organic products.
When we applied to place our silicone-free, organically based formulas in their stores, we were flatly denied.
Why?
Three of our ingredients were not certified as organically harvested. Fair enough—we understood that part.
But what we couldn’t understand was this:
How could their shelves be filled with silicone-based shampoos and conditioners labeled “organic”?
To this day, silicone is not considered a problem under organic certification standards.
Let that sink in.
Silicone can be derived from sand.
Gasoline can be derived from petroleum.
Both originate from the same raw earth materials.
Yet one is considered acceptable under organic labeling… and the other is not.
That’s not science.
That’s convenient morality supported by law.
Meanwhile, silicones—now widely recognized for their potential to coat follicles, impede oxygen exchange, and slow hair growth—are still promoted as “organic,” while formulas like ours, containing 17 active growth factors, are pushed aside.
Even more ironic?
Some of our ingredients—though not stamped organic—are refined to be cleaner, safer, and more biologically compatible than many certified organic ingredients.
Because we go back to the derivative, not forward into synthesis.
Who Pays the Price
The greatest tragedy in all of this isn’t market politics.
It’s the people.
Especially those in dire straits—fighting cancer, navigating hair loss, or trying to heal their bodies when details make all the difference.
They deserve truth, not labels.
Why We’re Still Here
With limited resources, and our hands repeatedly slapped by “the big boys,” it’s no wonder we aren’t stocked worldwide like silicone-heavy brands with massive marketing budgets.
Yes—we’ve been approached.
Yes—offers were made to invest, reformulate, and “greenwash” Belegenza into something more marketable.
We refused.
Because becoming another lie in the marketplace would make us no better than the system we challenge.
Is it frustrating?
Absolutely.
Will we keep our standards?
Without question.
Will everyone find us?
Probably not.
Will people continue losing hair they don’t need to lose?
Sadly… yes.
The Truth
You’ve heard the saying: All that glitters is not gold.
In this case:
All that’s stamped “organic” is not necessarily so.
We live by a higher standard.
Beyond organic.
Beyond marketing.
Beyond compromise.
That standard is Belegenza.
