No matter how prepared you are, the news of the big “C” and chemo can hit you like a ton of bricks.
Even if down deep you suspect you have it, the confirmation of the doctor is enough to knock your hair out right then and there!
With the news, the shock calls forth what seems like an avalanche of thoughts, concerns, fears, angers, and it just keeps coming…thoughts of what about, what if and so on.
We realized that we had no clue what it’s really like for someone to have the diagnosis.
We had heard a lot from those dealing with and unfortunately/fortunately, they taught us so much that we draw on to guide others through their journey.
When we started Belegenza, we didn’t plan on being the “go-to” for cancer related hair loss.
It kind of just started happening.
It turns out that people without cancer and chemo-challenged hair loss were getting such great results, which WAS and IS our intention,
questions started about whether or not it would help hair growth during chemo.
Then, the question was “what about after chemo?”
Then, “what about before chemo?”
Well, we went to work and got into communication with as many REAL people as possible, who had real experiences and were willing to share their experiences with us.

From there we began studying the REASONS why hair would fall out from chemo on a micro level.
Once we understood that, we saw that there were some opportunities to keep hair from falling out. How could we assist this became our question!
The main thing we found is that the reason why chemo causes hair loss is because the drug attacks rapidly dividing cells in the body.
Cancer tissues are considered rapidly dividing cells and so are hair cells!
Unfortunately, the drug does not know the difference between rapidly dividing cancer cells and rapidly dividing hair cells!

Hair Growth During Chemo
Back to our chemo users who were so generous to share their journies, they were so kind and brave to share their innermost thoughts, and what was most important to them during their cancer journey to recovery.
Well, to make a long story short, as they say….(too late…) we started to realize many things that helped us understand that what is done before and during chemo. This gave even more hope to the return of hair growth…for the long-term!
We started to find out that there were some VERY common things that happened to the hair, hair follicles, and WHY those things were happening.
AND, we found out that chemo is not a one time consistent thing for everyone.
There are sometimes gaps in chemo that are long enough to allow the hair to start showing its growth, but then get zapped by a second round of chemo…or more rounds.

And with this window, it’s very important to know these details even if you know that you will be having a second round of chemo inside the 68-day window!
The trick is to do what the 68-day window requires.
When you start your second round of chemo, start another 68-day window!

BUT BEFORE YOU DO, we are telling you that we found that we had not yet realized how much more there is to helping people who are dealing with cancer, chemo hair loss or chemo hair growth!
At one point, not long ago, we had a terrible website issue that shut down our usual way of doing business.
So, instead of relying on emails, blog posts, and such, we started doing the old-fashioned thing—phone calls!
