Intro to Scalp Care During Chemotherapy Chemo Hair Loss

It’s natural to have a rollercoaster of emotions about hair loss. After the mental shock of the idea of hair loss, everyone deals with it differently than others during chemotherapy chemo hair loss.

For some, no matter how well they were mentally prepared for hair loss it was still very upsetting.

Others may just have thinning hair.

Others may shave it off so as to claim their power in the matter.

Some act like it’s no big deal.

It’s personal.

One thing we have found from countless comments, is that getting your hair back as beautifully and quickly as possible is a priority for most

So.

If you are missing your routine of shampooing and styling your hair; take on a different routine to cleanse and nurture your scalp instead….coming up!

It’s important to take great care of your scalp to keep your hair follicles nourished.

As you probably already know, chemotherapy is killing “rapidly dividing cells,” aka cancer, and it doesn’t know that hair cells are rapidly dividing cells as well. So, that’s why some have more hair loss than others.

In a moment, we’ll be giving some tips that will help to “message” your follicles that not EVERYTHING is out to kill them.

AND, with this approach, you will lessen the insult to injury challenge.

This may be why some people don’t lose all their hair.

We compare it to the straw that broke the camel’s back.

If you are doing many things that are already burdening the follicles, chemo comes along like the straw and breaks the camel’s (follicle’s) back!

Continue reading to discover some daily tips for scalp care during chemotherapy hair loss to ease to burden.

Once your treatments are complete, you will have set the stage for better hair growth!

Cleanse your scalp regularly: Use a gentle, natural, and chemical-free shampoo to cleanse your scalp. Belegenza Natural Hair Care’s IlLustrious Shampoo & Cleanser is your best option. It’s gentle, low-lathering, SLS-free, silicone-free, paraben-free, gluten-free, petrolatum-free, mineral oil-free, phthalate-free, and more….. or less! LOL!

Avoid substances that collect in or on your follicles: A few decades ago we worried about petroleum and mineral oil in hair products.

But now, with “progress”, manufacturers have replaced those oils with silicones, acrylates, waxes, quaterniums, and plasticizers, which clog your hair follicles. IlLustrious Shampoo & Cleanser will gently lift those leftover residues helping to encourage your scalp for growth!

Massage your scalp: Using the pads of your fingers, move in a circular motion all around your scalp. This helps to ease tension and increases blood flow to your hair follicles.

Use a natural oil to seal in moisture: Apply a natural oil to your scalp to help nourish the scalp and soothe any irritation. Belegenza Natural Hair Care’s SpotLite Shine Serum is a wonderful moisturizer for your scalp. It’s lightweight, non-greasy, and non-sticky.

Protect your scalp from the environment: A daily dose of sunshine can lift our spirits and help heal our bodies.
With thin hair and bare scalps, it’s important to protect the scalp. You can wear head coverings and but beware of silicones, acrylates, and other chemicals in sunscreen. It’s important to consult your medical team about your treatment as it may increase your sensitivity to the sun as well!

Remember to cover your head during the winter because you can lose a lot of heat from your head.

Wash your head coverings: It’s important to wash your head coverings regularly to prevent unnecessary scalp irritation.

If there is a build-up of naturally occurring bodily secretions, like perspiration, oil, and skin shedding, it can irritate your scalp.

Follow the care labels in your head covering to ensure you are cleaning properly. For wigs, make sure you are washing appropriately for human hair or synthetic hair.

Pillowcase: Use a pillowcase made from natural fibers such as silk, cotton, or linen. Synthetic fibers, like nylon, can irritate sensitive skin, plus they can feel uncomfortable.

Conclusion to Scalp Care During Chemotherapy Chemo Hair Loss

It’s important to use gentle, natural, and nourishing products on your scalp. Some experience some sensitivity and irritation on their scalp during hair fall.

This is normal and usually subsides after a few days. If you see red spots that are very itchy this may be an inflamed hair follicle, called folliculitis.

Folliculitis is an inflammation of your hair follicle. With folliculitis, you will notice the formation of little red spots at the follicle opening. It can cause tenderness and intense itching, however, don’t scratch because doing so may further inflame your skin. Try tapping the itch, or using the beds of your nails without the free edge to satisfy the itch.

Always speak to your medical team if you have itchy and painful spots on your scalp.

Fine hair? Tinted? Indescribable damage?  If you have found yourself on the “TRY ANYTHING” wheel, it may be that silicone and synthetic products just can’t quite cover up the damage that has accumulated coupled with hormonal influences on the hair’s natural processes.   As Belegenza begins to purify your hair from these slick cover-ups, the true damage may be revealed and for the first few applications, your hair may tangle, feel dry or more brittle.  This is temporary, as the micro-conditioning agents make their way INTO the damage sites.  Keep going.  It’s temporary, and you’ll be glad you did! Not only that, we’re here to assist you through the process.  You can always start the conversation with “Alan-bot” who should have already popped up to help! If not, feel free to contact us at customersupport@belegenza.com .

Success Stories

I used your system a couple years ago following my chemotherapy. I never lost my hair completely as my treatment was considered mild. I was pleased with the results but went back to my old shampoo after my hair seemed to recover. Slowly my hair has seemed to thin again, not as bad as during chemo but it’s definitely not like it was after chemo stopped & I had been using your products. I’m going to reorder... Thank you, I’m looking forward to getting back to your shampoo & conditioner on a permanent basis.

“After I completed chemo I was very ready to see my hair start to come back and it was taking its time. I asked my oncology office if they had suggestions and one of the nurse practitioners said to use natural products and that other patients had had good luck with Belegenza. I immediately bought the Belegenza GrowOUT shampoo, RoMANce conditioner and GrowOUT scalp energizing spray. My hair started coming in faster, fuller and softer than expected. I am so grateful to have your products as part of my healing journey as this has helped me feel like myself again. Thank you so much!”

I’m using the grow out suite of products (years of chemo and more in the future) I love every single product and my hair is growing! I’ve been using grow out for 6-9 months. Now that I’ve gone to my natural silver Im wondering if I can start using the grey hair products. Thanks!
